Keeping you safe

How We Work

Considerately, co-operatively, efficiently.

A brief outline of how we undertake our inspections is detailed here. It is only a very rough outline and should not be taken as instruction on how to perform a P.A.T. inspection!

Reedsafe can issue a method statement if required prior to undertaking any work. By return, it is always good if we can be informed, in advance, who we will be meeting on site, if any PPE is required, if any dangerous or hazardous substances may be encountered, also if any other testing of services may be occuring during our visit. Kevin does not smoke so will not be requiring a smoking area but is human so directions to the loo and kettle are always handy!

We understand our work can be inconvenient as it does involve powering down equipment in order for us to connect it to our test equipment. However, we will always do our best to work around the needs of your team and daily business activities. Its all about communication and understanding!

Visually check
The first and most essential part of a P.A.T. inspection is the visual check. Is the equipment damaged? Is the flex suitable / damaged? Is the plug suitable, correctly wired, correctly fused, damaged, scorched, complete? Finally, is the equipment actually suitable for the task it is expected to do in the environment it is located within.
connect and test
Once we are satisfied the visual checks are good, we connect the appliance to our specialist test equipment. Class 1 equipment will be subjected to an earth bond test, both class 1 and class 2 (double insulated) equipment will be sujected to an insulation test and insulation leakage test. Extension or power leads will also be verified for correct polarity.
record and label
Results are recorded and if all was found to be acceptable, a PASS label is considerately attached in a suitable location on the appliance or flex. If a fault is found that we are unable to rectify, a red FAIL label is attached and the appliance is either reported or removed from site depending on whatever has been agreed in advance.
