THE BASICS

What do we test?

Reedsafe can inspect and test all kinds of electrical appliances and equipment, no matter if it is fitted with a standard 13 amp plug, 2 or 5 amp round pin, heavy duty industrial connector running on 110 volt, 230 volt or 415 volt. We carry adaptors of all shapes, ratings and sizes of plug.

Spares and repairs?

Yes, we repair! If we discover one of your plugs is broken or damaged, we will repair or replace whilst performing the inspection. Likewise, we rewire any poorly terminated plugs to make them safe. We hold stock of both 3 amp and 13 amp fused plugs, 2 and 5 amp round pin plugs, 3, 5 and 13 amp fuses as well. Damaged flex? Depending on type, we can supply and fit inline connectors complete with cable restraints, waterproof inline connectors are also held in stock. Alternatively, it may be safer to fit a new flex. We can supply and fit a range of switches for certain makes of catering equipment and vacuum cleaners too.

How much will it cost?

Well that varies! If you are based in Norwich or one of the immediate surrounding areas such as Sprowston (where we are based), Spixworth, Catton, Thorpe St. Andrew, Bowthorpe or Eaton, our minimum invoice value starts at £50 for up to 50 items. The minimum invoice value does increase with distance travelled but so does the quantity of items we will inspect for that fee. Fair is fair! The easiest way to estimate your costs would be to contact us for a quote. Incidentally, we do offer special rates for very small quanties - again, please contact us for a quote. Finally, we do NOT charge VAT. For smaller businesses that could make us 20% cheaper!

If we do need to perform any repairs that would carry a cost, these will be fully discussed prior to undertaking the work. Ordinarily, there is no fee for rewiring existing plugs, we will include a few fuses and standard 13 amp plugs too.

How do I pay?

Reedsafe accept all major credit and debit cards. You are also welcome to pay by bank transfer. You will receive an invoice by email upon completion of the job. If you settle by card, you will have the option of a receipt for the transaction - again that will be delivered by email. Unless agreed otherwise, certificates are only provided upon receipt of cleared payment.

Why TEST EQUIPMENT
Quite simply, it is a legal requirement that electrical appliances and equipment used by employees or the public must be maintained in a safe condition. PAT (or Electrical Equipment Testing E.E.T. as it is becoming known as) helps to demonstrate you, as an employer, landlord or "responsible person" are taking steps to ensure safe working practices are in force.

FREQUENCY OF TESTING
This really depends on quite a number of factors. Essentially, it usually boils down to risk. A hand tool such as an angle grinder being used in a manufacturing workshop will require more frequent inspections compared with a server PC located in a nice rack cabinet located in a controlled, air conditioned and locked room with minimal access! Of course, other factors include landlords requiring annual inspections, insurance company terms and conditions, trade associations and governing bodies criteria for membership, the list goes on. Age of equipment can also be a factor too.
WHAT DO WE GET?
Whilst performing the testing, all appliances are clearly and neatly labelled as we go. We offer a choice of labels too. Choose from our custom printed, Reedsafe branded green and white or black and white overlaminated heavy duty labels, smaller green and white standard labels or tiny 25mm square non branded green and white pass labels. Unfortunately, fail labels only come in red - but lets hope you won't see many or any of those!
Upon completion of the visit you will receive a computer generated PDF certificate. This will be delivered by email - usually within 24 hours of the visit. A certificate issued by Reedsafe will display our details, your details, list all appliances inspected complete with appliance descriptions, make, model and location. We also list any electrical readings taken - many companies don't. The pass / fail status, date of inspection and a SUGGESTED retest date is offered too. We also supply a copy of the calibration certificate for our test equipment so you can be sure all tests were performed using equipment verified for accuracy by an independant calibration house.
It is probably worth mentioning, we can also check your microwave ovens for safe emission levels during operation too.
